Creating a more “open” automation environment

Technical Topic: Broadcast Facility IP Data Exchange (e.g. BXF)/ Delivery Method: Presentation -For more than a year the Broadcast eXchange Format (BXF) messaging system has been helping stations save time and money, advancing communication of the metadata running the daily broadcast workflow. The format presents a standard that a wide variety of application vendors can use, providing an automated messaging system and an XML message format. Since BXF became a standard in April of 2008, several stations have gone a step further, adding systems that complement BXF and work to increase third party interoperability between different traffic, program management and digital content distribution systems. The trend for manufacturers is to become more “open” so broadcasters can extend the shelf life of their technology investments. Automation systems are becoming even more compatible with program management, digital delivery and traffic systems of competitors, which takes some burden off of broadcast outlets by better utilizing current investments and improving overall workflow efficiency. This presentation will cover how BXF is enabling broadcasters to get more out of their automation systems, especially while dealing with diminished resources and time. It will outline examples on how this is currently being implemented within the market.
