Exhibit Hall OpenGrand Ballroom Salons 3-6 Tuesday 1:00 pm- 7:00 pm Case study:implementation of a file based work flow from acquisition to air.Michael Foti (WGBH Educational Foundation, USA) WGBH is the largest Public TV operation in the US producing more than one third of the program content seen on The Public Broadcasting Service. Programming is distributed on multiple platforms: the web, broadcast, cable and DVD. The core broadcast operation has been tape less with the adoption of video servers in 2000 and in 2007 automated file movement between digital archive and servers . The production work flow however was a physical media linear process the same that it had been for 40 years albeit the infrastructure had shifted from analog to digital and the record formats evolved but the production process was still the same. In the early fall of 2008 WGBH Engineering examined the current production work flow with an eye toward streamlining the process from studio to distribution. Planning began in the fall of 2008 for a scalable centralized storage pool based on a SAN (Storage Area Network) architecture with nodes for ingest, post production, transcoding and distribution.
